Our Little Monkey!!

39 weeks later and the most important thing in Ry and my life has arrived!

Our little monkey!

(Giving her best "Get that camera out of my face" look)

I visited the doctor on Wednesday. We had been planning to undergo an induction Friday, but the doctor suggested a natural type of induction to see if that would start things earlier. And boy did they! I got home and around 6 pm or so the contractions began. There was no consistent pattern at first so we just timed them. We figured that we'd get some rest around 8 in case they got worse. Ry fell asleep before I did and I kept timing them to see if there would ever become a consistent pattern. Around midnight they were so spread apart I figured the whole thing had just been false labor.

Then 2 am rolled around... and there was finally a pattern! By 5 am I could barely stand the pain and 6 am we were on the way to the hospital with contractions 5 minutes apart and it turned out I was 3-4 cm dilated. I was practically begging for the epidural then! Actually I was, as I'm sure Ry will attest.

Besides a slight scare during the wait for me to dilate, everything went perfect! Once I got the epidural time just seemed to fly, and when 1 o'clock rolled by I was 10 cm dilated and and ready to push! At 2:21 pm little Kailee Ann was born!

Here are her stats:

6lbs 3oz
19 inches long

Our first family pic:

And here she is with a head full of hair. I know she gets that for sure from her momma! And here are some more lovely pics of her! (Yes, I'm biased!)

Her first bath:

On the way home from the hospital:

We're now back at home and settling in. I'll be sure to post more pics of her in the coming weeks!

38 Weeks - Our Leek

At least I know what a Leek is. But a leek? Really? I think whoever they hired to find size comparisons needs to be fired. How about a Chinese radish? See, I'd be perfect at that job.

Well. I'll start off by saying that this kid is definitely taking after his/her father. I swear...the lack of respect for people in authority. Our child will be starting off their childhood being grounded. I'm getting the eviction notice prepared.

I went for my 38 week appointment and guess what! There was absolutely no progress. I am STILL only a fingertip/1 cm dilated and STILL 75%-80% effaced. The kid is still lodged at -1 station. I think the munchkin is planning on making my womb a permenant home for him or her. He or she is probably putting up posters and setting up for the long haul.

Nothing much else to report. I could whine on about how uncomfortable I am at the moment, but I'm sure that none of you want to hear that! I know that I/we're closing in on the finish line though so that makes this all worth it. Soon I'll have our little dumpling in my arms. And you all will FINALLY know the sex and name of the baby. The heartbeat was a good 136!

Another appointment next Wednesday. I'll update you again then!

37 Week Update - Swiss Chard

Where the heck do they come up with these size comparisons? I'll never figure it out.

Sooo..I'm STILL only 1 cm dilated. After the contractions/cramps I was having this week I was so sure there would be a huge amount of progress. I can't be too disappointed though, there was a bit of difference from my last appointment. Now instead of 75% effaced I am now 80%. Also the baby dropped from -2 station to -1 station.

-5 is the the highest up and as the baby moves down it goes from -5, -4, etc to +4 which ultimately is when the baby arrives. I think I've got that right. I could be be making this up :)

The baby's heart rate was in the 120's this week. That has me a bit worried although heart rates between 120-160 are normal. The heartrate has just been consistent at 140 throughout the pregancy it's weird to hear something so different. But the baby was probably sleeping so I'm not going to become too paranoid. At least that's what I'll tell you!

Other than that, not much else is new! Not going to take pictures this week as my weight hasn't changed at all, and I'm really just too lazy to pull out the camera and take them!

I have another appointment next Wednesday, I'll let you all know what the news is then. Thanks for reading!

36 weeks - Our crenshaw melon (what the heck is a crenshaw melon?)

According to my baby.com email update I get every week the baby is estimated at 6 lbs and is about the size of a crenshaw melon. Too bad I have no idea what a crenshaw melon is! Wow. Finally closing in on the last few weeks. I can't believe in only a few weeks our little munchkin will be here. Maybe even sooner than January 31st! I thought a lot about always being pregnant and having a little boy or girl, but now that he or she will be here in a few weeks it still amazes me. It all feels so surreal.

I visted the doctor today and had our final ultrasound before I go into labor. The baby has gotten so big that it was pretty much impossible to make out any details on the ultrasound. We saw the baby's heart pumping, an eye and mouth, and an arm. I probably would not have been able to figure it out unless the nurse pointed it out. I can't believe how much the baby has grown in these past few months. They estimate that the baby is around 5 lbs 11 ounces. Give or take a pound. As many people have told me though, those predictions are never really accurate. We can always end up with a 11 lb baby (knock on wood, that the baby doesn't end up that big!!!)

The doctor also checked and said I was 75% effaced and 1 cm dilated!! The process has begun! Granted I could stay at 1 cm for weeks, but hearing that was exciting knowing that soon our little one will be here. I also gained 6 lbs in the past 3 weeks, but let's ignore that little fact. I go back to the doctor now every week to check the progress. You'll probably see more blog updates from me...that is if anyone is even reading this blog :)
